PLAYING FULL-LENGTH CDs FOR CLASSES AND WHOLE SCHOOLS

We can play full-length musical CDs or tapes in the classroom, can’t we? They play classical music, Christmas music, etc., in the morning when the kids are arriving. (I never would have thought of this, but someone asked.)

Susan F.- I wouldn't have thought of playing CD's as being a problem. I think the copyright factor comes into play when you are talking about copying music or using it in a presentation. We play CD's in the morning before the news, too.

Debra T.- As for playing CDs in the classroom….as long as the CD is the original product and it is not being recorded, I would think it is okay.

Leigh- We need to research public performance further. I will start by looking directly at the Title 17 law. I know that there is some kind of clause in the law for places such as restaurants and bars, but I am not sure what applies to schools.
